1. Church is divided.

What five things do these “false apostles” accuse Paul of?
1.Being fake apostle.
2.Promoting himself.
3. Lying to the Corinthians
4. Keeping offering money.
5. Writing stern letters but not backing it up with action.

How does Paul answer each accusation?
Accusation 1: He wwent through to much to be fake.
Accusation 2:5For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.
Accusation 3: I call God as my witness that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth. 24Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm.
Accusation 4:We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift. 21For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men.
Accusation 5: 9I do not want to seem to be trying to frighten you with my letters. 10For some say, "His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing." 11Such people should realize that what we are in our letters when we are absent, we will be in our actions when we are present.

Who was Theophilus? No one really knows.

Why did Luke write this book? To explain the birth of Jesus.

John

Who wrote it? No one knows, but we think that it was John.

When was it written? 85-90

Who was it written to? New christians and Non christians.

Why did John write this book? To prove that Jesus is the son of God and that anyone that who believes will have enternal life.

Is the author identified by name? No ma'am

What does “circa” mean? It means around.

Write out your memory verse for John.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believe in him with have eternal life.

Acts

What is Acts about? The acts of the early church.

Who wrote Acts? Luke.

Who was Acts written to? Theophilis.

What does “Day of Pentecost” mean? The day that the Holy Spirit came.

How did the following disciples die?

· Andrew- Cruscified on an X cross.

· John- Died naturally.

Luke IIII

Describe the beating of Jesus.
1. Victim is stripped and tied to a pole.
2. Shards of metal and bone are laced into the leather whip.
3. Romans aren't limitedr to to 40 strokes, as are the Jews.
4. Pain and blood loss set stage for shock.

Describe the “dead man walking” phase.
1. Victom carries crossbeam to execution site.
2. Crossbeam is attached to vertical pole.
3.Seat prolongs the torture, making it easier to breath.

Describe the “nailed” phase.
1. Iron mails pin wirsts and feet to cross.

Sinners and Foriengers.

Who ended up treating the man’s wounds?
A despised samaritan.

Why do Jews despise Samaritans?
Racial and spiritual half-breeds.

What does Luke 10:36-37 say?
The one who showed him mercy. Yes, now go and do the same, Jesus replies.

Luke part II

What is a “bar-mitzvah”?
That is a Jewish party when a boy turns 13.

Why did Jesus and his family go to Jerusalem?
For the springtime Passover festival, probably traveling with groups of family and friends from Nazareth.

Where did Mary & Joseph find Jesus? What was he doing?
They found him at the temple courtyards, and he was wowing the Jewish teachers with his insights about the Jewish religion.

How did Jesus answer?
I did not know, I must be in my Father's house?

Jesus already “seems to understand” what?
That he was going to be a minister and a teacher.

Luke part I

Who is Theophilus or who might he have been?
No one really knows who he is, but he may have been a rich person to help publish the book, or he may have been interested in the new christian method.

How much of the NT was written b/c of him?
A lot.

Who is the author of Luke?
Luke.

Without Luke’s letter to Theophilus, what would we be missing? (list it out) Also, what “word” would we be missing?
We would be missing the word savior. We would also be missing the way that Jesus was born. "CHRISTMASSS!"

What does Luke 2:10-11 say?
To not be afraid and that Jesus would bring good news and great joy.

What’s the “Main Point” of Luke?
That Jesus is coming to save everyone and not just the Jews.

When was Luke written?
It was written 50-60 AD

~Jesus made them an offer that they couldnt refuse. To make them fishers of men.

He offered to make them fishermen of men.
4.What did Andrew hear Jesus call John the Baptist?
The lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
5.What did tax collectors do in Jesus’ time?
Jews who collaborate with the Roman occupying force.
6.Tell me about the “company” Jesus “keeps”.

Mark Part 1

1.Why is Mark considered a book for “readers with short attention spans”?
~It is the shortest of the four Gospels.
~It's light on talk,heavy on action.
2.What does Mark open up with (rather than a family tree or the birth of Jesus)?
~He jumps into the Jordan River where John the Baptist is baptizing people.
3.What does Mark 1:7-8 say?
~Someone is coming soon who is greater than I am so much greater that I'm not even worthy to stoop down like a slave and untie the straps of his sandals. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirt.
4.“Then Jesus took off to work”…doing what?
~He calls a group of 12 men to become his disciples to travel with him and to learn from him.

Matthew.

a. Was Matthew the first gospel written?
Mark was the first.

b. What does "Gospel" mean?
It means good news.

c. What promise does Malachi close the OT with?
That God will send a Messiah to fix Israel's problems,and to bring peace and joy to the people.

d. What does Matthew declare as he opens up the NT?
That the Messiah has come at last.

e. What does Matthew convince readers of?
He promise fulfilled prophecies divinely insightful teachings and miracles to convince Jews and other faiths that their expectations were off mark.

f. Who wrote Matthew? When was it written?
Matthew, and it was written after 70 AD
